#12: College Audition TO-DO LIST

7/16/24

COACHES, STUDENTS, PARENTS.

The tough time is coming. Once September comes you will have the beginning of school activities, fall shows, extracurriculars, classes, etc. Everything will be back in full swing.

NOW is the best time to get some items in check. These aren’t necessarily in order, but I’d recommend getting them done prior to the 1st day of school.

  1. If you are getting new headshots. Get them scheduled & retouched now. These take time to come back. Don’t wait.

  2. Establish your preliminary school list. Most students need 20-25 schools. Some more, and in some rare cases, less. BALANCE is key here. For every highly competitive program you want to apply to, you need 3 non-audition or not as competitive schools.

  3. Common app essay prompts are up! Get to it!

  4. Make your requests for RECOMMENDATION LETTERS

  5. HEAR ME ALL - work on your pirouettes! You will need to film one on the right and left for the BALLET OPTION. For non-Rockette level dancers, you will need to practice these daily before filming.

  6. Have you coordinated working through your dance? Who is choreographing for you? How are you handling this? I’d know what dance I am filming before 8/1.

  7. If you haven’t decided on your TWO SONGS & TWO MONOLOGUES for prescreens, this is a TOP priority. For prescreen filming you’ll need quality tracks of the cut you like and it will need to be well rehearsed & hopefully coached for premium success.

  8. Additionally, I never encourage people to audition in the FALL. You simply won't be ready. The fall should be only about prescreens. Don’t go to Pittsburgh Unifieds - they are simply too early and you want to do well, right? WAIT. TRUST ME.

This is just the beginning. The road will become bumpier and much harder once auditions start. Stay compartmentalized. Get ahead when you can :)
