#25: Weekly Coaching & Audition Recap
Friday 8/2/24
Welcome to FRIDAY! Another weekly recap of coachings, auditions, and SHOWS I SAW!
COACHINGS:
This week I MOSTLY had college audition coachings and, since I was sick Friday - yesterday, I canceled any in person coachings. Honestly, my energy was so low that the MOST i could do was zoom. I don’t want anyone to get sick regardless!
This was a BIG unlock! When filming a self tape… do not look in the viewfinder! You want to select the LENS or a specific spot off to the side. If you look at yourself it looks SO WEIRD.
Common App is now open friends! Look at any additional requirements for “questions” or “essays” per school. All the info is available NOW - you may have more or less additional work and I would get started TODAY.
When a school or an audition asks for 2 audition songs… that is an invitation to flex different muscles. Contrasting isn’t necessarily “belt a slow contemporary song” and “belt an uptempo classic song”. It COULD. But, if you have strong competency in a “2nd” voice you should demonstrate that skill.
Would you audition for SIX? Do you have a song for it? Get one or two that would work for the time period (not too contemporary and not too 80s/90s) & queen inspo!
AUDITIONS:
I had ZERO actual auditions this week. ZERO. honestly, felt pretty good haha. That’s this time of year though. A few submissions, one of which seems promising - already got a callback. And another 2 that I’m REALLY hoping something comes from. One of the shows I’m already done AND i played one of the roles they are seeking. This would be incredible but, of course, i’m not holding my breath and will practice my “short term memory”.
SHOWS I SAW:
JUST ONE! I saw The Outsiders on Broadway last night. Aesthetically, it was absolutely crazy. The stage appeared to be actual dirt (of course, i know it isn’t but there is some texture to it). The whole look from scenic to costumes to hair was really flawless. One thing that took my breath away is in the rumble. Somehow, each actor (while in a precisely choreographed number) kept adding blood to their clothes or faces, got black eyes, got dirt on their costumes, got their hair messed up, and got black eyes and cuts. The amount their looked changed DURING the rumble was just another incredible level to the storytelling. I had a good time at this show but I’m not sure it’s one I would run to go see again.
SHOW & SONG OF THE WEEK - FIRST DAUGHTER SUITE
Considering this bit officially changed to SHOW AND SONG OF THE MONTH. Getting to it lol.
