#30: Weekly Coaching & Audition Recap

Friday 8/9/24

Welcome to FRIDAY! Another weekly recap of coachings, auditions, and SHOWS I SAW and the song/show of the month update.

COACHINGS:

  1. This week was FULL omg. I had probably 45 meetings/sessions/coachings. It’s so funny because a month ago I was “bored” and now I’m right back into the swing of all things college audition season.

  2. One big UNLOCK I had with someone was the idea of OPPOSITES as it relates to style of music. If a song is so beautiful - like a beautiful flowing melody - WARNING WARNING! Are you getting wrapped up in the beautiful haunting melody and ignoring what the song is actually about? This wasn’t the song we worked, but I think about As Long As He Needs Me. This is a beautiful song that at surface level is about a woman standing by the love of her life. Awwww. How nice. He’s a little flawed but she loves him anyway. NO THAT IS NOT WHAT THE SONG IS ABOUT. The song is about a woman who was just DV’d publicly, and she is finding the strength to keep going. It’s not a pretty song. The second you hear a pretty, sweeping melody your brain should start firing on all cylinders to investigate what is REALLY going on!

  3. I worked with a few people who are participating in a free COACH THE COACH training I’m doing for people who want to get into coaching or have an established practice and want to refine skills or talk about business. I’m finding - and some of them may be reading this (i literally have no idea who is reading this lol all i see is when a subscription starts but i don’t see names) - that there are so many incredibly talented and hungry well meaning coaches out there. My advice to all of them has been you have to DIVE IN and give shit away for free. You have to declare it, make marketing, give free lessons, talk to schools & parent groups, and get HEAVILY involved in local theatres especially in education departments. And if your local CT doesn’t have any education - START IT.

AUDITIONS:

  1. I had not ONE audition lol. BUT I do have some good/decent irons in the fire so we’ll see. This late fall/winter could be feast or famine.

SHOWS I SAW:

Welp, failed here too! Didn’t see any shows but I am seeing a VERY exciting one in 2 days… so, stay tuneddd.

SHOW/SONG of the MONTH:

Ummm Mary Testa belts 6 songs IN A ROW. yes… SIX BACK TO BACK. Ok so I have been listening to this and I really can’t tell what the eff is going on or who is who. This week i’m going to try to find some slime tutorials. What I am liking is a contemporary score but utilizing some more like traditional MT voices.
