#35: Weekly Coaching & Audition Recap

Friday 8/16/24

Welcome to FRIDAY! Another weekly recap of coachings, auditions, and SHOWS I SAW and the song/show of the month update.

COACHINGS/SESSIONS:

This week was FULLLLLLL because I had the weekend off because I went to DC (more to come…) over the weekend so everyone was crammed into the weekdays. It’s that time of year where I’m trying to keep all my college prep students on track with applications and prescreen decisions. A little wild for sure - it’s always a test for me because i’ve gotten more involved in the application/early admin side of the process. It’s not my favorite part, but if my students have more accountability to get moving with the “stuff” before school starts, the better.

AUDITIONS:

Welp. I’m simply not going to enough auditions to justify this being a whole section. I may rethink a bit of the weekly recap sub-sections. I wanted to go to an audition last night but I actually never heard back about an appointment (it wasn’t a meritocracy appointment, it was just email for a slot) so I think I’ll send a video. Still a few irons in the fire through the end of the year - hopefully something to report soon.

SHOWS I SAW:

OOOOOOOO I saw NINE at the Kennedy Center starring Steven Pasquale. And HOLY SHIT. This was unreal. I have to say, I’ve not had positive experiences with NINE in the past. The music was never something I could get into, I almost did the show in 2016 or so, I never saw a full production… something about it just didn’t seem like it was for me. Well, i was wrong. I get it now. This production was so beautifully done from design, atmosphere, casting, storytelling devices… and so much of the success of this production was not only the singing from the actors but the acting itself. This is so clearly a story that must be told with A+, best in class actors. It was the total perfect storm of creative, tech, and casting. I don’t know if I’d RUNNNN to see it again, but I definitely know if I go I have to know it is going to be high caliber.

SONG/SHOW OF THE MONTH:

FOUND a bootleg of FIRST DAUGHTER SUITE! Send me to broadwayjail. I’ll be watching this week and will report back.
