#56: I gave up waiting

Monday 9/16/24

Welp…. I was doing so well! It’s fully 1:30pm and I’m just getting to writing this. Why? Because i was in my car on my drive home and said “OH DAMN JULIE YOU FORGOT TO POST THIS MORNING!” Whoops! Honest mistake, but a good reason why I forgot.

I had an audition! YAYYYYY!

I decided to take a drive down to the Axelrod PAC in Asbury Park NJ. I did Ragtime there years ago which was kind of a co-pro between Axelrod PAC and Salgado Productions as it was primarily Luis’s team. It was a great experience. I also got along well with the Artistic Director, Andrew.

But TBH - since I joined the union they never even call be back. Disheartening and it could be because, well, Axelrod simply hates me for some reason, OR because they are spending $ on bigger broadway name stars and know they can’t use me anyway due to budget, etc. It could be anything. And they have done shows in the last 3-4 years that I am right for.

So today I was going to their EPA for an upcoming production of Fiddler on the Roof. It’s an equity audition day - albeit required lol - but I was like, you know what? Drive down and get seen IN PERSON. Plus, Andrew was going to be there AND the casting director, Michael Cassara who I haven’t been in front of in nearly 5 years.

To be clear, I don’t expect anything from this and really just went to get in front of them again. I LOVE Fiddler and know it like the back of my hand so I could even be in it tonight somewhere if needed! However, even though I’ve done the show and it was a different time. I think I’d be ok in the ensemble and maybe understudying one of the roles but I wouldn’t feel comfortable being one of the leads in Fiddler on the Roof since I am not Jewish. We’ll cross the bridge if we even get to it. Based on the the way the last few years went, I’m not banking on it and getting the show wasn’t REALLY my motivation for attending this today. I needed to get my face in front of theirs. I sang well, the MD said “oh YOU’RE julie” so he recognized my name from NJ or perhaps TikTok. But it was a pleasant experience overall.

More to come or none to come. Happy with the trip and the audition itself. And that’s all I can do.

Dreams Don’t Die
