#60: Weekly Coaching & Audition Recap
Friday 9/20/24
Welcome to FRIDAY! Another weekly recap of coachings, auditions, and SHOWS I SAW and the show of the month update.
COACHINGS
This week I had about 40 coachings - mostly college audition prep. I want to talk about ONE thing regarding that - but also applies across the board. Your job as the auditionee is to show what you have to offer TODAY. NOW. The job is NOT to audition with a skill set you hope to have in 3 months. If that high note is shaky 90% of the time? It needs to cook more. You need to put in work every day strategically. A shaky note is not an invitation to try it out for an audition to see if your adrenaline gets you there! Your job is to share what you ability is now - your repeatable, consistent ability now.
AUDITIONS
OOOO I had two! I attended an EPA on Monday - I shared a bit about this and had another one today, an appointment for a big job that would be very exciting to get. My observation is that I am SO WEIRD when they talk to me when I’m “done”. On Monday, I knew the producer well and casually knew the CD. As I walked past them when I was done - they stopped me with the “how are you” and “it’s been too long” etc. And I said WEIRD SHIT to them back haha. I was like “i’m good busy… crazy time for me…. It was so nice walking into this theatre” like WHAT i just wanted to GTF out of there. Then today, it was more of the regular NYC audition vibe - people in and out quickly but it was an appointment so I had music from the show to sing. They were laughing and engaged which is good and when I was done they were like “oh so fun… you’re great… excellent” and i just stand there like with a weird smile. I MUCH prefer lots of sides/songs or simply and in and out with NO convo. Anyway, I need to work on this . I’m really bad at these convos. I think i’m super aware of time and taking up more than my “fair share” so i tend to not engage or prolong.
SHOWS I SAW
None! But the next 4 weeks i have a show a week! I DID however attend a giant show aka my good friend got married this weekend and it was lovely, and beautiful, and life affirming!
SHOW OF THE MONTH
The show of the month is RIDE THE CYCLONE if you forgot. I did! I wasn’t able to spend any time with it this week but I’ve got the playlist ready!
